Some of the best flowers for bees and pollinators are in the mint family, Lamiaceae.
Rosemary is an aromatic herb that will provide nectar and pollen for bees from early spring onwards.
Thyme terpenes have an antibiotic activity that helps reduce the growth of bee disease and associated bacteria. In the past, before the advent of fridges, people used Thyme as a meat preservative.
THYMOVAR Varroa treatment contains thymol, a volatile substance which sublimates in the air depending on temperature. On release, thymol vapour concentrations build up in the treated beehive. These vapours are highly toxic to varroa mites but concentrations are not high enough to harm the honey bees. For optimal control, appropriate concentrations of thymol vapour must be maintained for six to eight weeks.
